The medical assessment, surgical planning, hairline design, graft extraction, recipient-site creation and implantation are personally performed by Dr. Arslan Musbeh. What is DHI?
Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) is a hair transplant technique that uses a hollow needle implanter device — sometimes called a CHOI pen — to extract, hold and deposit grafts in a single step. Unlike standard FUE and Sapphire FUE, DHI does not require pre-made recipient sites: the implanter creates the site and deposits the graft simultaneously.
Precise angle and direction control
The implanter allows the surgeon to control the angle, direction and depth of each graft with a high degree of precision. This is particularly valuable in hairline work, where the angle and direction of individual hairs determine whether the result looks natural. A hairline designed with DHI can achieve a level of directional precision that is difficult to replicate with pre-made site techniques.
Implantation into existing hair
Because DHI does not require pre-made recipient sites, it can be used to add density to areas that still have existing hair without the risk of transecting those hairs with a blade. This makes it suitable for patients with thinning rather than complete baldness, and for patients who want to avoid shaving the recipient area.
Limitations of DHI
DHI is slower than standard FUE or Sapphire FUE. For sessions requiring 3,000 or more grafts, the technique becomes time-consuming. In these cases, Sapphire FUE may be more appropriate. DHI is also generally more expensive due to the cost of the implanter devices.
